Don Harris Celebration of Life Set For October 28

Don Harris, a celebrated Hall of Fame horse trainer and legendary figure in the Saddlebred industry, passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 93 leaving behind a profound legacy of excellence and passion for life, family, and his sport. Don was not only an iconic horse trainer and master showman but also a charismatic personality whose influence extended far beyond the show ring. His career and life epitomized dedication, hard work, kindness, and the pursuit of excellence.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Whitney Harris, and his children: Jeffrey Harris, M.D., Angela Harris Herrin, and the cherished memory of his late son, Stan Harris, and his late wife, Roz Harris. Don’s family was always a source of pride and love for him. He also leaves behind a proud legacy in his grandchildren four grandsons, two granddaughters, four great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by two incredible individuals who were as important to him as his children, Judy Maccari Harris and Charles Herrin.

Throughout his life, Don Harris embodied the spirit of the Saddlebred world, becoming an indelible part of its history and future not only through his hard work and success but also through his mentorship of many young trainers. He always had an encouraging word and inspired others to strive for greatness. His influence will be felt for generations to come, and his memory will forever inspire those who knew and admired him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Saddlebred Museum.
