American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association Executive Director David Mount Resigns

The American Saddlebred Horse and Breeders Association (ASHBA) announced today that Executive Director David Mount has resigned. Mount tendered his resignation on Oct. 23rd to Board President Allen Bosworth and President-elect Chris Schubert. The Board of Directors was informed Monday, Nov. 11th during a regular meeting.

“David intended to take the Executive Director role on an interim basis when he was asked to serve after the previous Executive Director resigned but his love for the American Saddlebred and his sense of duty to serve in a time of change, between the pandemic and other issues, won out, much to our organization’s benefit,” Bosworth said, noting that Mount walked into a 24/7 job after being asked to transition from his position as Board president. “We have been the true beneficiaries of his dedication.”

Among the many accomplishments during David’s tenure as Executive Director are:
-Oversaw the merger of the ASHA and the American Saddlebred Registry (ASR).
-Launched both the ASHBA Star Shows and the National Select Series.
-Secured over $250,000 in Covid-19 relief funding.
-Increased funding for marketing and programming.
-Launched the successful ASHBA app.
-Launched Half Saddlebred initiatives including ribbon recognition program, champion (CH) designation, futurity, Select Series, and more.
-Launched Learn to Ride for Free program.

“I have been grateful to be in a position to help lead change for the betterment of our industry,” Mount said. “Now, I am ready to take on new opportunities that will allow me to have a better work/life balance.”

Bosworth said that Mount has agreed to stay on at ASHBA until the Board can hire a replacement and will help the new Executive Director transition into the role.

ASHBA plans to conduct a search for a new Executive Director and will post the job soon.
